EPILOGUE

Brief Author's note:

This story was first written back in '90 (which is why it remains set there after a rewrite in 1994) long before I found the furry universe as it is today. At the time I was dealing with a lot of things inside, mainly sexuality and religion. Also, I was obsessed with werewolves, the only consistent source of anything "furry" in my life.

There came a point where I suddenly could no longer bear to read 'typical' werewolf fiction, i.e. the usual sadistic man-eating evil monster crap. I sold off all 33 werewolf novels I had collected and said to myself "Self, if you're throwing these away because they aren't what you want, then write it yourself!" :o)

This was the first thing of real substance I EVER wrote. And as such, it was never meant, in my mind, to be a completely and properly realized novel. It is, quite simply, an outpouring of my mind and soul at the time.

There was no writer's block. It came out as fast as I could type it. Sometimes I would keep going in spite of numerous typos just so I could keep up with my head. :o) I had to keep a notepad with me at all times for when things popped to mind.

It was my dreams and desires poured out onto paper, raw and uncut. I hashed out what I was dealing with through Mike. Some of his choices and such wouldn't necessarily be my own (and the ripping off Def Leppard choice should be changed to remain consistent with his sense of what's right), but QUITE a lot of me went into him - and John, too.

Many of the story's shortcomings that have been pointed out by readers have already occurred to me over time; such as having some religious psycho trying to kill him in a subplot, the need for more conflict, especially with the government, and other things. Believe it or not, that 'universe' still runs around in my head after 18 years. Music and things from the period when I was writing it always bring Mike and John to mind. Funny how that story never ends in my head...........

In short (too late! *giggle*), even if I find the time to do a rewrite, I probably won't do too much to it. Some readers may see that as wasted potential, but I'm more inclined to remain true to the story's original form...me baring my soul on paper and hashing out my conflicts through those characters. I hope you can enjoy Flipside for what it is.

Click the Acrobat icon to the left of each story link to download a PDF.  I highly recommend doing this because, as much as I'm not a big PDF fan, I was too lazy to transfer all the formatting (italics, etc.) to the web pages.  The PDF's were exported from the completed documents and retain all formatting.
